In my role during the Lakshmipur flood relief efforts, I took on several key responsibilities through Citizens in Action Bangladesh (CIAct) to ensure our response was effective, organized, and impactful. First, I led the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the entire operation. These SOPs were crucial in making sure that our volunteers worked efficiently and safely. We set clear guidelines for relief distribution, patrolling the affected zones, and maintaining safety measures. I made sure that our teams knew how to recognise and avoid potential hazards while providing much-needed aid to those in flood-affected areas.
One of my main focuses was on mobilizing medical support. I reached out to NGOs and local communities to create a network of doctors who could provide medical assistance where it was needed most. By empowering local communities in Lakshmipur, we were able to establish 15 medical camps, where both local doctors and doctors from Dhaka provided essential healthcare services. The Doctor Database I helped create was instrumental in sending additional doctors from Dhaka to assist and support the local doctors, ensuring that our medical efforts were robust and well-coordinated. This collaboration between local and visiting doctors allowed us to provide better care and handle the increasing medical needs caused by disease outbreaks and injuries during the floods.
Collaborating with local NGOs and community leaders was another key part of my role. I worked closely with these groups to align our efforts and avoid duplication, making sure that our resources and aid reached those who needed it the most. By working together, we were able to make a bigger impact and provide a more organized response to the crisis.
Finally, I put a lot of effort into empowering local volunteers. Through CIAct, I ensured that volunteers were trained and prepared for the challenges ahead. They received guidance on community engagement, safety protocols, and how to deliver aid effectively on the ground.
All in all, my involvement in the Lakshmipur flood relief efforts through CIAct was about bringing together resources, people, and expertise to help those in need, while ensuring that our approach was sustainable, community-driven, and well-organized.

In addition to medical aid, I facilitated the allocation of resources and fundraising efforts. We worked tirelessly to raise funds for essentials like clean water, food, clothing, and hygiene kits, and we made sure these supplies were distributed as quickly and effectively as possible to those most affected. I also coordinated with volunteers to ensure they were equipped with boats, first aid kits, and protective gear so they could safely navigate the flooded regions.
